Water & Waste Water Laboratory

The objective of the Water and waste water services department is to provide high quality potable water to all the consumers that comply with the quality parameters of potable water as per World Health Organization (WHO) Norms . For any Water and waste water service provider, having a laboratory well equipped with all modern equipment and state-of-the-art facility is the pre-requisite. The Jusco laboratory with its state-of-the-art facilities ensures stringent monitoring. It is also the only laboratory under an Indian utility to be NABL accredited ISO 17025 certified.

Various functions carried out at the laboratory:

• Monitoring and surveillance of Process Water Quality and Drinking Water Quality at the consumer tap
   

• Monitoring and control for satisfactory operation of Water Treatment Plant at Water Works, River Pump House, Sewage Treatment Plant to ensure drinking water quality conformance to BIS(Bureau of Indian Standard) Norms, industrial water quality within industry norms and treated effluent quality meeting Pollution Control Board Norms.
   

• To render technical advice and assistance to other divisions of the organization in the matter of water treatment, sewage treatment and quality assurance process.
   

• Collection and analysis of water & sewage samples for process control and also from external customers.
   

• Ensure 100% compliance to potable water quality at water works and at customer tap as per BIS (IS 10500-1991)
   

• Ensure 100% potable water compliance to free chlorine (0.2 ppm), turbidity (less than 2 NTU) (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit) and coli form organism should be absent at Customer taps.
   

• 100% compliance to industrial water quality (<15 NTU) at RPH
   

• Minimize customer complains about quality of potable water.

Measures adopted for implementing the quality assurance process:

• To follow Laboratory quality system which consists laboratory quality manual, written standard operating procedures and work instructions meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025-2005
   

• Precise and accurate test results demonstrated by various quality control checks.
   

• Continual up gradation of knowledge base through training.
   

• Carry out tests in accordance with valid test method.
   

• Internal quality control like calibration of equipment and glass wares.
   

• Use of latest modern equipments like, Merck Spectrophotometer, Hach pH meter, Oxi-top for B.O.D (Biological oxygen demand) test and COD test by thermal reactor.
   

• Testing of Coli form Organisms under sterile condition by latest membrane filter technique using chromo cult agar.
   

• Use of Merck make certified chemical and reference materials.
   

• Monitoring the quality of raw water, process water and final treated water at each stage of water treatment process for effective treatment.
   

• Monitoring the quality of potable water at consumer's tap to ensure the conformance to BIS standard of drinking water.
   

• Monitoring the quality of sewage at each stage of sewage treatment process to ensure effective treatment of sewage.
