:: Jusco to complete city BOT project by July

Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company (Jusco), the 100% subsidiary of Tata Steel, which has undertaken water supply related projects in various cities of the country, is slated to complete eastern India’s first build-operate-transfer (BOT) project at Kolkata’s Sector-V in Salt Lake by July this year.

“We are going to complete the work related to development and management of water distribution & sewerage system at the Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority at Sector-V in Salt Lake City of Kolkata by July this year,” said Rajesh Rajan, head, corporate communications, Jusco, speaking to FE on Monday.

The Rs 68-crore project is being implemented by Nabadiganta Water Management Limited, a special purpose vehicle company of Jusco Ltd & Voltas Ltd (both Tata enterprises) with Jusco being a 74% stakeholder in the BOT contract in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

The central government is funding the 35% viability gap through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Jusco recently completed the phase-II work involving augmentation of urban water supply in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur town.

Funded by the urban development department of the Bihar government, the Public Health & Engineering Department (PHED) contract included augmentation of the water distribution system for various wards of Muzaffarpur city.

“We are also poised to complete the leak detection & rectification of pipeline project in Bhopal in another four months,” added Rajen.

The utility services provider which some time ago bagged the country’s largest water supply operation & management (O&M) project in Mysore and also recently bagged the National Urban Water Awards (NUWA) for 2009 in the “citizen services & governance category”, has also been awarded leak detection and rectification works in various divisions of Chennai city including renewal of all existing house service connections and corroded portions of small distribution mains, Phase VI.

Jusco has also signed a water concession agreement for 25 years with Haldia Development Authority and Haldia Water Management Ltd and Ranhil Utilities Berhard (Malyasia).
