World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which organizations & institutions, across the globe, stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances attention and action. JUSCO (Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company Limited) being an environment friendly company, commemorated the day by spreading awareness on “Climate Change/ Global Warming” in various sections of the society. The theme of World Environment Day "Many Species. One Planet. One Future”, was presented as part of a series of events at Jamshedpur Mysore and Haldia, which involved “Tree Plantation drive at 7 locations at Jamshedpur, Inauguration of Park” at Jamshedpur, water conservation awareness programme at Mysore and tree plantation and awareness programme at Haldia.

JUSCO responsible for executing India’s first city wide water supply project in Mysore with Karnataka Water Supply & Drainage Board (KUWS&DB) and Mysore City Corporation (MCC), took the initiative of cleaning 15 control and air valve chambers of 450 dia meter, trunk main, running from Vani Villas Water Works to J P Nagar. Recognising that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, JUSCO along with officials of Mysore City Corporation and local NGOs further cultivated the sense of water conservation by organizing an awareness program in Ward No.29, Metagalli Area, situated on the outskirts of the city which gets a daily water supply. The plan includes replacement of 20-25 old leaking public taps in order to avoid water wastage and sensitize the issue of water conservation by conducting Jatha and holding interactions with the user community members on the need and importance of water and its preservation.

Haldia:

Team JUSCO at Haldia planted 200 tree saplings at the water treatment plant and pumps houses. Along with tree plantation a dialogue with employees on water conservation and climate change was also organised.

Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, JUSCO is focusing its attention to highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.

The day's agenda was to give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues; and advocate partnership, which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.
