Jamshedpur Utility & Services Company limited (JUSCO) won the National Urban Water Awards (NUWA) in "Citizen Services & Governance" for the year 2009. JUSCO being the only private player won the award for an initiative towards "Consumer Satisfaction - JUSCO Sahyog Kendra and the JUSCO experience".

Her Excellency the Hon'ble President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil presented the award to Mr Sanjiv Paul, Managing Director JUSCO and Mr A P Singh, Chief, Billing & Customer Relations, JUSCO at a function presided by Shri. Jaipal Reddy, Honourable Minister of Urban Development, Shri Sugatha Roy, MoS Urban Development, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Government of India and Dr M Ramachandran, Secretary, Minister of Urban Development at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on August 13, 2009.

The award winning initiative, JUSCO Sahyog Kendra, was launched in 2004, which is a unique and innovative approach to customer complaints at Jamshedpur with 24X7 helpline service. No municipal and civic service provider in the country has such a robust system to manage customer requests and complaints. This single - window handling service approach is exceptional in the sense that it caters to all kinds of customer requests with pre-defined Service Level Guarantee (SLG) monitored and reviewed on a daily basis with a compliance level of above 90%.

With more than 90 entries for National Urban Water Awards 2009 under various categories namely, (i) Technical Innovation, (ii) Financial Reforms, (iii) Services to the Poor, (iv) Citizen Services and Governance (v) Public Private Partnerships and (vi)Urban Sanitation, JUSCO bagged the "Citizen Services and Governance" award and also won accolades for the "Technical Innovation".

The National Urban Water Awards launched in 2008 aims at fulfilling the purpose of recognizing and disseminating good practices in water management that have led to improved service delivery outcomes. The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) has instituted the National Urban Water Awards (NUWA) for urban local bodies and water boards to recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence in urban water management.

Amongst the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Water Utilities/ Boards, Non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, private sector, bilateral and multilateral agencies in combination with ULBs/ Water Utilities/ Boards, JUSCO is the only private player to have won this National award for the year 2009.
