Haldia is a major river port and industrial town of west Bengal located at the confluence of Hugli and Haldi River. The township was founded in 1959 and is just 100 km south of Calcutta. The Haldia region is administered by Haldia development authority (HDA). HDA offers necessary financial and social infrastructure for locating industrial, commercial and residential infrastructure. Indian oil refinery, Haldia petrochemicals, MCCPTA, Hoogly met coke are the prominent industries at Haldia.

Connectivity
Haldia is well accessible by road and rail to major industrial and consumer hub of eastern India.
Roads:
National highway 41 connects Haldia with NH -6 (Kolkata – Mumbai) at Kolaghat. Another state highway SH -6 also connects the port city with Kolaghat.
Railways:
Haldia is connected with the main south eastern (Kolkata- Mumbai) broad gauge railway line via Panskura – Haldia line. A circular railway connecting the core industrial area is under planning stage.
Airways:
The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose air port at Kolkata is the nearest airport of Haldia. |
