GWI Global Water Award 2008
JUSCO has been conferred with Highly Commended
Certification as “ One of the most effective water
service providers on the Indian Subcontinent” during the
GWI Global Water Award 2008 function held on 21 April
2008 in London. During the conference Mr Sanjiv Paul,
Managing Director, JUSCO, was invited to give a
presentation on “The Effective Management of Water – The
JUSCO Story – Lessons to be learnt”.
JUSCO was nominated under “Water Company of the Year”
category along with three other international water
giants namely Veolia Water, Beijing Capital and CH2M
Hill. JUSCO is the first and the only Indian water
company to have received this certification. The
certification is recognition to JUSCO towards
significant contribution to the development of
international water sector particularly in Asia and
Indian Subcontinent, where considerable improvement has
been witnessed in the utility that JUSCO is operating at
Jamshedpur. JUSCO is also actively involved in Private
Sector Participation programmes with some key Indian
utilities e.g. Kolkata, Haldia, Bhopal, Gwalior,
Muzzafarpur, etc.
Global water scarcity is a crisis on the scale of global
warming, but in many ways it is more pressing. It is
happening now. Across the world from the California's
San Joaquin delta, through the Mediterranean fringe and
the plains of Central and Southern Asia to the coast of
Northern China, the over exploitation of non-renewable
water resources is scarring the environment, creating
conflicts between communities, and sapping economic
growth.The solutions undoubtedly involve technologies such as
desalination and water reuse, as well as better demand
management, but how can we implement them in ways which
are financially, socially and environmentally
sustainable? The award is recognition to those water
companies that have created impact for sustainable
solutions.
On 1 April 2008, JUSCO was conferred with yet another
prestigious award i.e. The 5th Asia Water Management
Excellence Award at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. JUSCO is the
first Indian Water Company to receive this prestigious
award.
The Asia Water Management Excellence Awards is awarded
once every two years and is widely recognized as Asia’s
most prestigious awards for the water and wastewater
sector. Amongst the past winners include PUB Singapore,
Penang Water Supply, Malaysia and Manila Water,
Phillipines. |
